Here is an update on hockey results from last night involving local area teams:

North Stars 3 Flin Flon 0

The Battlefords North Stars drew first blood at home against the Flin Flon Bombers to open their best-of-seven SJHL quarterfinal series.

They did it despite being outshot on the night by Flin Flon 37-27, but veteran Joel Grzybowski shut the Bombers down the entire way for the shutout. The North Stars got goals from Kaden Boser in the first, Elijah Loon-Stewardson in the second and then Quintin Loon-Stewardson in the third.

The North Stars play Flin Flon again Saturday at the Civic Centre before hitting the road for game three at the Whitney Forum next Tuesday.. 

Battleford Beaver Blues 4 Edam Three Stars 3 (OT)

The Battleford Beaver Blues are the Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League champions for 2018-19.

They did it with a 4-3 overtime win in the decisive game three of the series at the Battleford Arena. It was Mike George's goal with over six minutes remaining in the first overtime that won it for the Blues, who swept the series in three straight games. 

The goal touched off a wild celebration in front of the capacity crowd at Battleford Arena, who saw their home town team skate around the ice afterwards with the Cup. 

Wilkie 7 Macklin 5

In other senior action the Wilkie Outlaws got a 7-5 win over Macklin Mohawks at Wilkie on Friday to open their finals series in the Sask West Hockey League. Game two goes Wednesday night in Macklin. 

AA Barons 4 North East 1

The Battlefords Midget AA Barons contnued their playoff run with a win over North East 4-1 at the Nipawin Jubilee Arena on Friday night. The Barons play again at home Sunday at the Civic Centre.
