Saturday marks the start of the final week of the Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League's regular season and the standings and the races are heating up.

Battleford leads the pack with a 12-2-0 and won both their games last week. The Battleford Arena was full for the Beaver Blues final home game, as they took on the Saulteaux 3 Stars.

Sean Fauchon strapped the goal equipment on for Saulteaux and despite not playing goal regularly made some good saves.

The Beaver Blues skated to a 14-4 win over Saulteaux, as Daxin Collins and Brent Salzl tallied seven points each.

Tuesday, the Beaver Blues were in Glaslyn and beat the North Stars 6-0 for their second shutout-win of the season.

Also Tuesday night, Perdue faced Radisson and won 6-3 in what could be a first round playoff matchup. Clark McNulty had three goals and two assists for Perdue while Travis Poletz, Garret Poletz and Kevin Fick had the other goals for Perdue. Kelly Cronin had two goals for Radisson while Nick Brand had the other.

Also Tuesday, the Hafford Mustangs went into Cut Knife and beat the Colts 5-2. The win was Hafford's third of the season and leapfrogs them into seventh place two points ahead of Cut Knife.

Hafford's other game last week resulted in a 10-6 loss to Saulteaux on a cold night in Hafford.

Saulteaux sits just one point behind Radisson in the standings, as Radisson fell 7-2 to Glaslyn Saturday. Brett Blaquire was the winning goalie while Jordan Solomko was in net for the loss. Greg Zubiak and Blain Hillbig both had two goals while Jesse Bannerman and Trent Pylypow had singles for Glaslyn.

The other game of the week had Maymont edge Perdue 7-6. Ryan Baptiste had a hat trick and two assists to lead the Settlers offence while Mat Leitner was in net for the win.

Teams have anywhere from two to five games to play in the final eight days of the season with playoffs likely to start around Feb. 7.
