One of the next major events on the Saskatchewan Curling Association's schedule is the 2013 Affinity Credit Union Senior Men's Northern Playdown.

The playdown is set to go in Outlook starting Thursday and two local teams are looking for a good showing and to perhaps qualify for provincials.

One of the Battlefords teams is skipped by Bill Knight with Alvin Welychko, Stewart Mitchell and Henry Welford make up the rest of the team.

The other is skipped by Glen Heitt with Daryl Eddingfield, Gary Maze and Bart Brown, who curled out of the Unity Curling Club last season and qualified for provincials out of the C event.

Teams from Kerrobert, Kindersley, Rosetown, St. Front, Yorkton, Shellbrook and Saskatoon are also competing in the open event in Outlook.

The senior men's provincial championship will be held in Assiniboia Feb. 20 to 24.

Also running this weekend will be the Provincial Mixed Doubles Championship. Cole Tentuik, who attended North Battleford Comprehensive High School and was an active junior curler in the Battlefords is teamed with Kayla Cormack for that competition in Regina. They are curling out of the Sutherland Curling Club in Saskatoon.
