It was a more noteworthy than usual road game for the Battlefords North Stars in Melville Wednesday.

The game marked the debut in a North Stars uniform for newly-acquired goaltender Kristian Lyon. He was acquired Friday from Langley of the BCHL, following the departure earlier that day of Parker Rey to Swan Valley of the MJHL.

Rey had done well for the North Stars this season, leaving fans to wonder how Lyon would fare. It turns out he did just fine.

Lyon posted a shutout over Melville as the North Stars got a 5-0 road win. What’s more, Melville actually outshot the North Stars 42-39. Lyon stopped all 42 shots while Berk Berkeliev managed to stop only 34 of 39.

The North Stars raced to an early lead in the first period on goals from Elijah Loon-Stewardson, Jaxon Steele and Noah Form in a roughly two-minute span early in the first. Austin Becker added his 16th of the season on the power play at the 5:06 mark of the second to extend it to 4-0.

The second period did see a host of penalties with the Loon-Stewardson brothers on the receiving end of a number of them. Quintin Loon-Stewardson and Melville’s Rin Beny both took major fighting and game misconduct penalties late in the period.

In the third period Timon Prexler scored with three seconds remaining for the final 5-0 score.

With two road wins under their belt the North Stars head home Friday for a game against the La Ronge Ice Wolves.
