The 2019-20 version of the Battlefords North Stars have yet to have a losing streak this season exceeding one game.

That remained true after the North Stars went to Wilcox and beat Notre Dame Hounds 4-2 in the only game in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League on Thursday night, rebounding well from a 5-1 loss in Yorkton the night before.

Matthew Fletcher scored just 36 seconds into the game to give the North Stars the early lead from Seth Summers and Quintin Loon-Stewardson. Sho Takai tied it at the 17:29 mark of the period.

But the North Stars took control in the second period with goals from Elijah Loon-Stewardson on the power play at 5:47 with Rylan Nivon and Quintin Loon-Stewardson assisting. Nivon then scored at 16:20, with Elijah Loon-Stewardson and Summers assisting.

With Kaden Boser in the box for slashing, Takai got his second of the game at the 9:04 mark of the third period on the power play from Jarrett Penner and Jared Hamm. But Logan Spence’s goal provided the insurance the North Stars needed, with Matthias Urbanski and Summers both assisting.

Austin Schwab got the win in net stopping 34 of 36 shots. Riley Kohonick stopped 28 of 32 for the Hounds.

The North Stars now sit at 25 wins and 3 losses for 50 points, 11 points ahead of Flin Flon for first in the league and 15 points ahead of Humboldt in the division. They return to action for their third game in three nights tonight on the road in Weyburn.
