North Stars outmatch Broncos 9-6

The North Stars notched three goals each period in Elgar Petersen Arena. The game's first two goals came from Elijah Loon-Stewardson and Brett Gammer. The Broncos pulled within one from a goal by Michael Clarke, before Dayton Heino gave the North Stars the lead after one period.

Humboldt's Cole Kirkup opened the scoring of an eventful second period, followed quickly by a marker from Bronco Bryson Cecconi to tie the game. The Broncos continued pressing, with goals from Mitch Zambon and Drew Warkentine, pulling ahead 5-3 in front of their hometown crowd.

On the power play, the North Stars notched two goals (from Brett Gammer and Quintin Loon-Stewardson) and Ryan Gil scored before the end of the second period to go ahead 6-5.

Emotions spilled over near the end of the second period. Garrett Johnson and Austin Shumanski were booted for fighting, as were Broncos Chase Lacombe and Warkentine.

The second intermission gave teams time to calm down. Quintin Loon-Stewardson had trouble keeping out of the penalty box, and got three separate penalties within seven minutes. The Broncos' Mitch Zambon gave the North Stars a run for their money to tie the game at six apiece.The North Stars held down the fort however, gaining momentum from a goal by Owen Lamb, an unassisted short hander from Kaden Boser, and Braydon Buziak finished off the Broncos with an empty netter with about a minute left in the game.

The North Stars have a final game against the Kindersley Klippers on Tuesday to determine the leader of their division going into the playoffs. The Klippers trail the North Stars by a point.
