It may have been deep-freeze conditions for the team in Wilcox, but the Battlefords North Stars managed to be red-hot on the ice as they beat the Notre Dame Hounds 5-1 on their home ice.

The North Stars won on the strength of five unanswered goals in the second and third periods. After Brady Clayton made it 1-0 Notre Dame in the first period, Matthias Urbanski (on the power play) and Dylan Esau gave the North Stars the lead in the second period.

In the third period the North Stars got goals from Matthew Fletcher, Seth Summers (on the power play) and finally Elijah Loon-Stewardson into an empty net.

The game was the first since the goaltending deals that saw Parker Rey sent to Swan Valley while Kristian Lyon was acquired out of BC. It was Austin Schwab who got the start for the Battlefords in net, and he stopped 30 of 31 shots for the win. The North Stars outshot the Hounds 35-31 overall.

The North Stars were due to take on the Millionaires Wednesday night in Melville. They play at home Friday against La Ronge and then Saturday against Notre Dame in Hillmond as part of Hockey Day in Saskatchewan.
