The Battlefords North Stars are back in the lead in the Canalta Cup finals after a 4-2 road win over the Melfort Mustangs at the Northern Lights Palace.

The game was a come-from-behind effort for the North Stars who trailed by a goal early but came back to win. Joel Grzybowski stopped 28 of 30 shots on the night to get the win.

Tyson Meyers got things off on the right foot for Melfort at 6:49 of the first period with his second goal of the finals from Justin Ball. But the North Stars tied it on Austin Becker's second of the playoffs from Owen Lamb and Seth Summers at 14:45.

Regan Doig then gave the North Stars the lead at the 8:48 mark of the first period with Ryan Gil assisting. But Justin Ball tied the game with his seventh of the post season, Carson Albrecht assisting, with a power play goal.

Braydon Buziak then restored the North Stars advantage with 15 seconds left in the second with Cody Spagrud and Noah Form assisting.

In the third period Quintin Loon-Stewardson gave the North Stars an insurance marker, Buziak the assist. That goal came just moments after Grzybowski robbed the Mustangs of what seemed like a sure goal.

Despite a late Melfort power play the North Stars held on for the 4-2 win. Shots on goal favored the North Stars 31-30.

The North Stars return to action again Wednesday night in Melfort with a chance to take a 3-1 series lead. Be sure to follow @TheNewsOptimist on Twitter for game updates.
