NSRBL quarterfinals wrap up Monday

The quarterfinal round is almost over in the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League are headed to decisive third games. In one series, the Battlefords Trappers fell to the Wilkie Brewers 5-0 in the final game of that series in Wilkie.

The quarterfinal round is almost over in the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League are headed to decisive third games.

In one series, the Battlefords Trappers fell to the Wilkie Brewers 5-0 in the final game of that series in Wilkie. The Trappers had forced the decisive third game with a 6-1 win on Thursday.

The other third game sees the Unity Cardinals host the Standard Hill Lakers on Monday night for the final game to decide that series. Unity forced that series to the limit with an 11-7 win Thursday.

Two other teams are already into the next round. The undefeated Border City Blue Jays swept Meadow Lake in their best-of-three series, winning by scores of 14-2 on Monday and 9-2 on Tuesday.

The Macklin Lakers have also moved on with a 9-3 win Tuesday and 6-5 win Wednesday over the Lloydminster Twins, for a two-game sweep of that series.

In other league news, Gavin Nolin of the Trappers has been named the 2019 League MVP. Nolin was selected through team voting. Cory Wildeman of Unity was second in the balloting and Jared Hillis of Macklin was third.
