It’s “Play ball!” for baseball teams in the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League beginning next week.

The provincial government announced that as of June 29, team sports were a go in the province under part two of phase four of Re-Open Saskatchewan.

That means the NSRBL season can finally proceed, after a delay of a couple of months due to COVID-19.

But it will be a reduced league compared to previous years, with just 11 teams in action, including both the North Battleford Beavers and Battlefords Trappers. The North Battleford midget Beavers squad is not returning in 2020, however.

The latest departure announced is the Wilkie Brewers, who have been granted a one-year leave of absence.

That means some further tweaks are being made to the schedule. For the time being, the schedule posted on the NSRBL site calls for the season to begin July 2.
