Rivers West district dominate slalom events at 2014 Saskatchewan Winter Games

The Rivers West district is currently second in the medal count at the 2014 Saskatchewan Winter Games in Prince Albert with 33 total medals. Rivers West has won 11 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze medals as of Feb. 19.

The Rivers West district is currently second in the medal count at the 2014 Saskatchewan Winter Games in Prince Albert with 33 total medals.

Rivers West has won 11 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze medals as of Feb. 19. Regina also has 33 medals, but sits atop the standings with 12 golds.

Twenty-two of Rivers West's medals have come from slalom alpine skiing. They have won eight gold, eight silver and six bronze medals in the event.

Nadine and Shayna Fehr placed first in the female under 12 and under 14 category respectively both days of the competition to win two gold medals each. Eli Klassen won on the first and second day of the male under 14 competition. Louis Lacoursiere finished first in the male under 16 category on day one. RJ Cook won the race on day two of the under 16 competition.

Abbey Neufeld finished behind Nadine Fehr in the under 12 competition on both days to earn two silver medals. Liam Tkatchuk won silver on day one and two in the male under 14 competition. Cook finished behind Louis Lacoursiere in the male under 16 run on day one. Lacoursiere won silver on day two. Amy Lacoursiere earned silver in the female under 16 competition on day two.

Mitchell Harris won two bronze medals for both days of racing in the male under 14 competition. Taylor Musgrave finished third on day one and Devin McAllister won a bronze on day two in the male under 16 races. Makenna Vany won a bronze on day one of the female under 12 slalom races. Also on day one of the slalom, Amy Lacoursiere finished third in the under 14 competition.

The other three gold medals were won by Shaina Couillonneur in the 55 kg female judo competition, Kassidy Yockey in synchronized swimming and Chloe Bargen in the female juvenile cross-country free technique event.

Sara Edwards won a silver medal in the female peewee cross-country interval start event. Leigha Bruno and Levi Harris won silver in the under 55 kg female judo and under 60 kg male judo individual competition respectively.

Bargen also won a bronze in the female juvenile cross-country interval start race. Madison Johnston and Eliezer Elvira finished third in their respective under 45 kg and over 60 kg individual judo events. Yockey won a bronze in the synchronized swimming figure event. Bailey Dembicki and Peyton Turcotte earned a bronze medal in synchronized swimming duet co-ed.

The Saskatchewan Winter Games conclude Feb. 22.
