It was certainly an exciting game for the viewers of SaskTel Max to see.

The TV cameras were at Battleford Arena as the Battlefords Sharks took on the first place Saskatoon Stars on Thursday night in female midget AAA hockey action.

The game went to overtime, but unfortunately for home fans it was Anna Leschyshyn’s fourth goal of the night that gave Saskatoon the 6-5 overtime victory. Still, the Sharks get a point in the standings out of the night.

The Sharks had taken a 3-0 lead on goals by Brooklyn Rowley in the first period, and then by Ali Aitken and Rowley again in the second period. Calli Arnold cut it to 3-1 but Kyra Williamson extended the lead to 4-1 with Madison Sansom and Ali Aitken  assisting.

A third-period goal by Kendall Guenther on the power play made it 5-3 midway through the period for the Sharks. But Leschyshyn scored three power-play goals at Sharks expense to force overtime, and then got the overtime goal to win it.

Yelena Zaleschuk had a busy night in the Sharks net, stopping 35 of 41 shots. Kaitlyn Cadrain stopped 24 of 29 to get the win.

The Sharks return to action Jan. 19 on the road at Gull Lake Arena versus Swift Current, part of Hockey Day in Saskatchewan.
