The Battlefords AAA Sharks came up short in their attempt to even the season series with Melville, as well as capture their first win of the season.

After losing 6-1 to Melville at home twice one week earlier, the Sharks were in Melville for two games on the weekend hoping for some revenge, but came home with just a single point.

A lot of credit for that single point has to go to the Sharks' goalie Jacy Akre, who faced 129 shots while registering a tie and a loss.

Saturday, after being out shot 15-6 in the first period, the Sharks were tied 0-0 on the scoreboard.

Early in the second, Jamie Fedler scored her fourth of the season. Ten minutes later, Delaney Ross scored her second of the season from Fedler.

The Sharks were badly outshot in the second period, but held the 2-0 lead.

Two early interference penalties by the Sharks in the third period gave Melville a chance to tie the game and they did that with two powerplay goals by Laurel Mclean in just over three minutes.

The Sharks' captain Amanda Grainger scored her third of the season from Ross to retake the Sharks' lead later in the third period. But, with less than six minutes left, Darci Kirkwood scored for Melville and tied the game 3-3, forcing overtime.

In the extra period, Melville had five shots in five minutes while the Sharks registered three, but the two teams stayed even, playing to a 3-3 draw.

Nicole Clay faced 26 shots for Melville in the tie while Akre stopped 63 for the Sharks.

Sunday, Akre faced 63 shots, but this time in a losing cause.

Stephanie Sawchuk of the Prairie Fire scored 11 seconds into the game and they rolled from that point on.

The Sharks were able to even the score nearly two minutes later when Alissa McNeil scored from Grainger. The goal was McNeil's second of the season.

Melville reclaimed the lead later in the first period and never relinquished it, as Kirkwood beat Akre for the second straight game.

The score was 2-1 after the first and the second ended the same, but the Sharks were being outshot 44-9 after 40 minutes.

In the third period, the Sharks had their best period as far as shots against, but their worst as far as goals against. Teigen Kuntz, Bailey Braden, Morgan Wilson and Brooklyn Kalusky all scored for the Prairie Fire while Rachel Trach was the lone Sharks' goal scorer in the third.

Trach's powerplay goal was her first as a Shark in 41 games and was assisted by Fedler and Ross.

Melville was 1/7 Sunday on the poweprlay and ended the weekend 3/15. The Sharks scored once in six chances Sunday and ended the weekend 1/10 with the man advantage.

The Sharks sit in last place with a 0-7-2 record and will face the 3-0-0 Notre Dame Hounds in Wilcox this weekend.
