The Battlefords AAA Stars needed a sweep if they wanted to get back into the playoff race versus the Swift Current Legionnaires.

It didn’t happen. The Stars and Legionnaires split their weekend games, leaving the Stars mired in ninth place in the standings in the Sask Midget league.

The Stars did win the opening game Saturday by a 4-2 score, despite being outshot 36-26 in the game. Carson Dobson had two goals in the game, one of which was shorthanded; the team also got goals from Jake Southgate and Noah Schindel.

But on Sunday the Legionaires responded with a 5-1 win. Tanner Willick’s power play goal in the first period was the lone Stars marker in the game.

The Stars remain 11 points behind the Legionnaires after the weekend, with just seven games remaining in the regular season. Their next game is Saturday night in Tisdale.
