The Battlefords AAA Stars were back in the win column Tuesday night, winning over the Prince Albert Mintos at home 3-2 in overtime.
The Stars took the lead with Andrew Urbaniak’s goal in the second period, but there were some hair-raising moments in the third period when PA scored twice to take the lead.
Turner McMillen’s goal early in period three, followed by Gage Helm’s shorthanded goal midway through the period, gave the Mintos a 2-1 lead.
But the Stars tied it up on a goal by Payton Kostyshyn from Carson Dobson and Liam McInnis with 5:43 on the clock, and that set up the overtime session.
With 58 seconds left in overtime Jake Southgate got the game winner from McInnis and Mason Bueckert for the win.
Ethan Hein stopped 24 of 26 shots to pick up the victory in net for the Stars; Spencer Welke stopped 28 of 31 for Prince Albert.
The win was a much-needed two points in the standings for the Stars, who currently sit five points out of a playoff spot with a record of 9-13-2-0. Next up for the Stars is a trip to Swift Current on Friday night to face the team immediately ahead of them, the Legionnaires
