Tigers trip up Eagles in NSRHL

The Turtleford Tigers maybe would have, as they beat St. Walburg 5-3 Saturday on home ice to move to 4-7-1 on the season.

Kyle Dodgson had two goals, while Jordan Macnab had a goal and two assists. Darren Delainey had a goal and an assist against his former team while Mitch Perkins had the other Turtleford goal.

Chad Terres earned the win for the Tigers and Bryan Bridges took the loss for St. Walburg after giving up four goals.

The night before their first loss, the Eagles edged by the Spiritwood Timberwolves with 2-1 shoot out win. Tyler Fisher scored for Spiritwood in the first period and Taylor Thiessen scored for St. Walburg in the second.

Kevin Nasby was the only shooter of the six to score, as Bridges shutdown all three Timberwolves' shooters.

The Meadow Lake Stampeders also kept pace with the Eagles with two wins on the weekend. Friday, the Stampeders downed Turtleford 10-1. Tedi Hood led the offence with a hat trick and an assist. Dustin Gorst also had four points while Ashton McIntyre, Jordan Keller and Calvin Fiddler had three points each.

The next night, Meadow Lake had a strong third period, which gave them a 6-5 win over Wilkie. McIntyre scored twice and Darren Caron, Cole Fern, Fiddler and Hood had single markers for the Stampeders, who scored four times in the third period.

Barrett Penner had a five-point night for Wilkie with a hat trick and two assists while Robert Keller and Rick Cey had the other goals. Mike Sittler had three assists.

Rick Dallyn made 31 saves in the win while Curtis Sander made 31 saves in a losing effort.

Wilkie split their weekend action, as they beat Edam in Wilkie Friday. The game was moved from Edam due to ice conditions, which has been a common theme for senior teams lately.

Cey had three goals for the Outlaws while Sittler had two and David Schell scored once. Edam had four different goal scorers, Brendan Weitzel, Brody Roach, Brett Jullion and Keagan Bourelle. Jared Herle earned the win in net for the Outlaws.

Edam suffered their second loss in as many nights, as they fell 6-2 to Maidstone Saturday. Brett Harrison led Maidstone's attack with a hat trick and Jason Roberts, Morgan Thomarat and Rory Gregoire had single markers. Gregoire also had three assists. Joel Blauiere and Joel Budd scored for Edam.

Saturday, Spiritwood hosted Paradise Hill in what was a goaltenders' duel. Justin Finlay scored in the first period for Spiritwood and they were able to hold on for the 1-0 shutout win.

J.R. Bussiere had the shutout while Paradise Hill's goalie, Sean McConnell, allowed one goal, but also wrapped up 14 penalty minutes.

Four misconducts were handed out in the game to Spiritwood players along with 11 minors. Paradise Hill was given 11 minor penalties, one major penalty, three misconducts and two game misconducts on the night.

There were two games on the NSRHL schedule Wednesday, but those scores between Wilkie and Edam and Meadow Lake and Paradise Hill were not reported at press time.
