Sydney Lake, 17, of Turtleford was selected as one of 24 junior stars, who will partake in events at the Brier in Saskatoon March 3 to 11.

With the Tim Hortons Brier just two weeks away, many curling fans are on the hunt to find tickets to the event in Saskatoon.

Twenty-four young curlers from across Saskatchewan aren't in that situation, as they were selected as SaskEnergy Junior Stars for the Tim Hortons Brier. The young people selected will have a special role during the Brier in Saskatoon March 3 to 11.

The winners will serve as honourary members of the teams. That distinction means they will be able to have their picture taken with their assigned team, be at ice-level for the team's warmups, have an opportunity to go behind the scenes and meet the TSN broadcast crew, be introduced at the special pre-game ceremony and earn tickets to their team's games.

The requirements for the special honour were that the curlers must be between 12 and 18 and affiliated with a junior curling team in Saskatchewan. The selection was based on a 100-word essay describing why they should be a SaskEnergy Junior Stars and an outline of their community involvement.

Cody Thompson of Unity along with Sydney Lake of Turtleford are among the lucky 24 selected. Cody will be one of two junior stars for Team Newfoundland/Labrador and Sydney will root for Team Manitoba.

Curlers from Saskatoon, Colonsay, Prince Albert, Macklin, Martensville, Weyburn, Watrous, Langham, Regina, Hanley, Radville, Carievale, Lloydminster and Ituna were also selected.
