Battlefords minor hockey report

The Battlefords Minor Hockey Association and Battlefords Female Hockey Association had a busy weekend with league and tournament games for the teams and for some it was a good weekend, for others it may be one they want to forget soon.

Time ran out on the Battlefords Bantam Sharks, as they lost 4-3 in the tournament final to Edmonton Sunday at the Don Ross Arena.

The Battlefords Minor Hockey Association and Battlefords Female Hockey Association had a busy weekend with league and tournament games for the teams and for some it was a good weekend, for others it may be one they want to forget soon.

Midget AA Barons

It was two close losses for the Barons on the weekend, as they had two home games in Centre Four Hockey League action.

Saturday, Beardy's pulled out a 3-2 win and Sunday, Warman won 5-3.

The Barons will be back in action when they host Midwest and Lloydminster Friday and Saturday.

Midget Barons 1

The Barons hosted Edam in STEP League action Friday and, after a physical game, Edam scored the winning goal in the final five minutes of the third to take the 4-3 win.

Jack Einsiedler scored twice and had an assist, while Joel Night had the other goal. Nathan Pfeil and Robin Swindler also had assists.

Nick Scott played great in the Barons' net, making several saves in the third period, but still took the loss.

The Barons will be in action Wednesday against the other Battlefords team. Thursday, they go to Spiritwood, Saturday, they will be in Meadow Lake and Sunday, they play in Turtleford.

Midget Sharks

The Battlefords Midget Sharks had just one game on the weekend and were shutout 6-0 by the Saskatoon Midgets.

The Sharks now prepare to host their home tournament Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Don Ross Arena. The Sharks play Prince Albert Northern Friday at 6 p.m. and EG714 Avalanche Saturday at 9 a.m. in round robin action. The other teams at the tournament include: Saskatoon Comet Cyclones, St Albert Rush and EG713 Hype.

Bantam AA Barons

The Barons were at home to the two best teams in the Centre Four Hockey League and although they tried to keep pace with the skilled Prince Albert team and physical Warman team, they lost both games.

The Barons' highlight of the game Sunday against Warman was the individual effort by Cooper Atcheynum splitting the defence and scoring for the Barons in the first period.

Bantam Barons 1

The Barons remain undefeated on the season, as they downed Rosetown 4-3 in Rosetown.

Cheyenne Benson scored the Barons' first goal followed by two from Kevin Bendall. Masen Carriere scored the game-winning goal with five minutes left in the third period.

Taryn Kotchorek was the winning goalie.

The Barons host Kyle Saturday in their next game.

Bantam Barons 2

The Barons started the regular season in the STEP League and pulled out 6-4 win over Edam.

The two teams will be back in action Friday in an exhibition game at Battleford Arena.

Bantam Sharks

It was a good competitive tournament, but the Sharks came up just short.

The Sharks hosted Edmonton, Cold Lake and St. Albert in a four-team tournament on the weekend and went through the round robin undefeated.

The Sharks handed Edmonton their first loss of the season Saturday with a 2-1 win in the first game of the tournament.

Sunday, after advancing to the final, Edmonton returned the favour beating the Sharks 4-3 and handing the Battlefords their first loss of the season. Edmonton left with the gold medal after a strong tournament.

Next on the agenda for the Sharks is a game Friday in Spiritwood against Parkland and Sunday, they play in Melfort.

Peewee AA Barons

Two out of three ain't bad. The Battlefords Peewee AA Barons were on the road for three games this weekend and returned with two wins.

Friday night in Prince Albert, the Barons won 5-4. Mathew Flath was the winning goalie with Brandon Lesko scoring twice. Karsten McDonald, Owen Lamb and Jayden Nachtegaele had single goals.

Saturday, the Barons were beat 5-2 in Melfort. Lamb and Jared Schmidt were the Barons' goal scorers.

Sunday, the Barons got back in the win column with a 6-4 win in Tisdale. Dax Desmarais was in net for the victory while Lamb led the offence with five goals. Nachtegaele had the other in the win.

The Barons now sit at 3-3-1 in the Centre Four Hockey League.

Next on the schedule is an away game in Warman Saturday.

Peewee Sharks

The Battlefords Peewee Sharks had a perfect weekend, as they won twice and remain undefeated. Friday, the Sharks held on for a 6-5 win. Sydney Geering scored four times to lead the attack and added one assist. Also scoring was Caylin Edwards and Morgan Lamontagne. Matheson Colliar picked up the win for the Sharks.

Colliar earned another win Saturday as the Sharks downed the Cold Lake Lakeland Jaguars. Edwards scored twice while Tayla Poole scored once.

The next action for the Sharks is a Saturday tilt with Vikings in the Battlefords.
