Midwest starts provincials

Midwest was first on the board, but before the first period was finished, Prince Albert tied it 1-1.

In the second period, the same scenario happened, this time Prince Albert came up with a goal and were ahead. Midwest battled back and the period ended in a 2-2 tie.

The only team to score in the third was Prince Albert, as they took the game 3-2, the first game in a two-game total-goal series.

Midwest was set to load up the bus Thursday and head to Prince Albert for the second and deciding game of the series.

The provincial format in the Centre Four Hockey League has the top eight qualify while first place faces eighth, second versus seventh and so forth. Prince Albert was ranked fourth and Midwest was ranked fifth on the Dec. 31 deadline. Since the deadline, Midwest has moved up to third in the CFHL standings while Prince Albert dropped to fifth, as the two teams are separated by just two points.

Thursday's game, is sure to be an exciting one, as these two teams have stepped up their game for provincial play, and it's fast, hard hitting, action to watch.
